If you plan on competing in 2022 there are some technical requirements for your vehicles fire system you may need to check.

The UK have imposed regulations that all vehicles competing in 2022 are required to be fitted with a system that meets the technical standards from FIA’s technical list 16 or 52. This means any Irish competitors planning to compete in Northern Ireland or in mainland UK will have to comply with these regulations.

For Circuit Racing - FIA Technical List 16:

Your vehicle must be fitted with the minimum of one plumbed in fire extinguisher this can be either mechanical or electric as long as it is homologated to FIA technical list 16.

The first step is to check if your vehicle has an FIA system that complies.

  1. Check the label on the bottle, if you see homologation ref of Ex……. check your number is listed on FIA Technical List 16 here. If there is no homologation number then you do not have an FIA system.
  2. If you have a suitable system check if the service label is in date – service requirement is every two years.
  3. Check the year of the bottle, if it is over 10 years old then it is not possible to service.

If you need a new system for saloon classes within entry level we recommend the new Lifeline Zero 2020 3.0ltr Fire Marshal. Formula classes can also use the above system but where space is limited we recommend to use SPA Design 1.25 Litre Alloy Mechanical.

For Ralling - FIA Technical List 16:

It is required to have a Handheld extinguisher as well as a plumbed in system for rallying due to the potential for longer wait times for recovery. You must meet the minimum requirements for your plumbed in system of 3.0kg of suppressant.

The first step is to check if your vehicle has an FIA system that complies.

  1. Check the label on the bottle, if you see homologation ref of Ex……. check your number is listed on FIA Technical List 16 here. Please note for Rally you need a system that is ticked as RALLY on the FIA list. If there is no homologation number then you do not have an FIA system.
  2. If you have a suitable system check if the service label is in date – service requirement is every two years.
  3. Check the year of the bottle, if it is over 10 years old then it is not possible to service

For entry level we recommend the new Lifeline Zero 2020 3.0ltr Fire Marshal.

Handhelds minimum requirements specify a minimum of 2.4ltrs of AFFF foam or 2KG of Novec gas and the same servicing parameters apply to handhelds as the plumbed in systems, every two years. You can find our Hand Held options here.

For FIA Categories WRC, R5, RGT, T1, GT3, WRX – Technical List 52 8865-2015 Standard:

If you fall into this category then you require the 8865-2015 standard which offers the highest possible safety standards. You need to check the label on the bottle to ensure service is in date. Service requirement is every two years. Complete systems can be found here.
