In 1996 Tillett Racing Seats was the first company in the world to introduce a karting rib protector with a hard outer skin, called the Ribtec. This product was invented while company founder Steve Tillett was attending major international kart races developing his “Tillett” seats. However, despite the benefits of the new supportive seats, some drivers would still experience continuous rib problems caused by sticky tyres. The rib protector was developed to solve these issues and the early Tillett Ribtec product started a whole new class of protective wear in the karting industry, now adopted as necessary equipment by the FIA.

In the following years the use of Tillett Rib protectors has been instrumental in saving not only injury but also many a championship race.

Tillett rib protectors have been used by numerous Formula one drivers while karting. This elite list of drivers includes names such as Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen, Jules Bianchi, Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, George Russell, Zhou Guanyu, Mick Schumacher, Lance Stroll and many more.
