A new saloon car lap record was set in Kirkistown on Saturday by Erik Holstein in his Murray Motorsport BMW M3. He was competing in Round 8 of the Irish Touring Car Championship, and lapped Ireland's fastest circuit in a time of 1m02.00 which not only eclipsed his own previous record lap of 1m02.04 he set in the days earlier Round 7 race, but it beat the existing record of 1m02.258, which had been previously set by a Seat Leon Supercopa in an open libre saloon car race. As the record is classed as open, there are no boundaries to horsepower or tyre choice for this saloon car record. It's a great statistic to be held by the Irish Touring Car Championship, and shows how the standard of the class has advanced over the last 3 years
