The inaugural Fiesta ST Championship will kick of this year in April at Mondello Park. We will field a number of these cars within our own race team and also support assistance to a number of customers. We will provide tyre assistance to each competitor as we are the official tyre sponsor for the series with Yokohama.

We have put together a short video to show the process of turning a road car into a fully-fledged racing car. This involves first stripping out the entire interior of the car which exposes the dreaded sound deadening & seam sealer. This can take anywhere from 8-10 hours to remove but can yield approx. 20kg of weight saving. Once this is done the interior is prepped for the FIA approved OMP roll cage which has been exclusively made to our specific requirements and is only available through Murray Motorsport. Also fitted at this stage are the weld in seat mounts which provide a solid base for the drivers chosen seat and seat mount rail set up.

The car is then sent to the body shop to be painted. On its return we start on the chassis. We fit the series specific GAZ suspension kit and top mount which offers increased caster & camber, this was developed by us and is exclusive to Murray Motorsport. The kit will provide each competitor with the same excellent performance at a very reasonable price. Also fitted at this stage is the black series Powerflex bush for the rear of the front wishbone which will provide resistance to movement in this component for improved handling. In the engine bay the series allows the use of a strut brace which we will be fitting to all our cars to help stiffen up the front of the chassis.

The braking system can be upgraded with braided lines and competition brake pads. We offer a choice of EBC yellowstuff or CL sintered brake pads who have done a special price for the class allowing us to give competitors 35% off this pad. We are permitted to fit alloy rings to retain the wheel bearings in the upright, oddly there is nothing to hold the bearing in place in the standard setup.Next up is the interior. All our cars will have flocked dashes to reduce glare from the sun and also looks cool! Flocking is an in-house service we offer to customers. Fitted next is the Odyssey PC680 battery which will be mounted using an alloy bracket along with the SPA 2.25 ltr plumbed in fire extinguisher system. From there it’s a case of mounting the drivers chosen seat along with the fiesta ST boss kit and a steering wheel. Lastly a set of harnesses and roll cage padding to finish of the interior

The road going ST comes standard with 17 inch alloys these will be replaced with lightweight Team Dynamic Pro Race 1.2 15 inch alloys fitted with the series specific Yokohama tyre. Yokohama’s world renowned A048R (195 50 R15) will be the control tyre for the series. As a partner of the series the tyres will be available to competitors at a special discounted price.

During the build we remove the engine and gearbox as they need to be stripped to check all the components conform to the regulations. The engine must remain standard with an upgraded ECU map. A Pipercross induction kit is permitted to increase airflow into the engine. The standard clutch disc can be replaced by a Helix competition paddle disc.

We will be back with an update when some of our cars are complete.

This is set to be a really exciting series, we can’t wait to get on track!
