What is Thixotropic molding? Thixotropic molding is similar to conventional die-cast but is more akin to plastic molding. Thixtropic molding is a better process for making light yet strong metal pieces – vehicle seats, for example. The process begins with a metal alloy heated to the point just below melting. The resulting semi-solid is fed into a mold through a barrel and reciprocating screw. Finer tolerances combined with strength create features like the conical splines for the leg on the HANS Adjustable. How do the Spiralock anti vibration fasteners used to attach the legs of the HANS Adjustable work? A self-locking female thread form is made by adding a unique 30 degree wedge ramp at the root of the thread. The wedge ramp allows standard 60 degree male fasteners to spin freely relative to the female threads until a clamp load is applied. The clamp load creates a continues spiral line of contact along the wedge ramp. This eliminates the radial clearance that allows fasteners to begin self-loosening under vibration. What is DuPone Zytel and how does it work? The coating of the HANS Adjustable is a nylon resin that is injection molded to fit the device.  In addition to toughness characteristics, the make-up of the polymer can be mixed specially to be highly fire resistant.
